About
Desk was extracted from one person's daily setup. This page says what is proven, what is not, and what else is out there.
What is proven, and what is not
- Used daily by its author for a month of non-code work, across some twenty sessions, before being extracted.
- The figures quoted in the docs (the share of usage taken by long sessions and by screenshots) are measurements from that one person's sessions. They are evidence, not a benchmark.
- Not yet proven by other people. This version is early. If it does not help with your kind of work, that is a result worth reporting.
Related projects
Desk reuses what Claude Code already provides (skills, subagents, plugins, working copies) and does not rebuild it. Others have solved neighbouring problems, and for some needs they are the better choice:
- PAL MCP Server: a full multi-model toolkit for coding, with consensus across paid models.
- CCPM: project management for software work, built on GitHub Issues and working copies.
- Superpowers: a software-development method as a set of skills.
- obsidian-claude-pkm: personal planning in an Obsidian vault.
What Desk adds is the combination: free review across vendors with a receipt, a short fixed list of things that wait for a person, and a focus on work that is not code.
Why it exists
Good results from a modest plan. A Desk spends the expensive model on the conversation and the judgment, sends the reading to smaller models, and has answers checked by models that cost nothing. Fewer wrong answers reach you, and less compute is burned getting there. Review by other vendors reduces confident mistakes. It does not eliminate them.
Two kinds of disorder are welcome here. The one in how people think: write to a Desk the way thoughts actually arrive. And the one open source runs on: nobody is in charge of what you do with this. Fork it, bend it, port it.
This is the version for Claude Code. The idea is not tied to it: if you use another assistant, you can use Desks to build your own version.
Contributing
The most useful contribution is a report of how a real session went, especially where it failed. New surfaces (how to drive a tool well) and new review lanes are welcome. How to contribute. It is MIT licensed: fork it and make it yours.
Work with me
Desk is free and you can set it up yourself. If you would like it built around how you or your team already work (your tools, your accounts, your own rules and review lanes), I do that as private work. Get in touch.
Desk is an independent project. It is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Anthropic. Claude and Claude Code are Anthropic's names.
